Dog n Suds Sign
One thing, other than our awesome food and great service, has remained the same since opening day and that is The Dog n Suds sign standing proudly over the drive-in. The 8 foot tall porcelain sign is fully adorned with neon outlining Rover and the words “Dog n Suds”. Sitting atop the sign is a large stainless steel flashing arrow. There were 10 original signs made prior to the logo being changed due to copyright infringement. The version at the Lafayette Dog n Suds is a newer example, we also have a pretty good idea where to find one of the last remaining examples of an older version. The signs had several add on options from the manufacturer, these included the flashing arrow, a marquee board and am add on sign that read “Charco-burger”. wow was so surprised and excited to know that D&S was still in exsistance. When I first met my husband, we were both stationed in Ft Knox Ky and D&S was our favorite place to go after work/ Of course that was almost 42 years ago and alas we no longer live in KY (now is WI) and on our last trip to KY we found it was no more.
As with many marriages these days ours is going through a really rough spot and isn’t looking in the best of shape. We are taking a trip this summer to Florida and found while surfing the web just for things we remembered from years ago that maybe we would enjoy seeing, we found your site. We are planning on stopping there for lunch and hope that the reminising we will probably do will help to give some hope and strentgh to a love that was so amazing once upon a time.
